Awake, Educate and Change

Educational Awareness Campaign:

This year Students Islamic Organization of India, Karnataka Zone has decided to observe the Educational Awareness Campaign on the theme “Awake, Educate and Change” from 23rdth to 31st May 2010.

To ‘Awake’ the Masses is the initial process to accomplish some Change in any domain. .The ‘Change’ is rule of the universe. Whole humanity is looking forward for the positive and constructive change in all the aspects of the life. SIO believes that the education plays a pivotal role in bringing the desired change. The prime focus of this year’s campaign will be to struggle for the’ Right to Education’ and ‘to Awake the responsible persons’ to realize the multi-faceted problems of educational backwardness or illiteracy. By making them realize and aware of the need of education for the CHANGE in both the personal life as well as in society, we need to proceed.

The Constitution of India states –

 Provision of free and compulsory education to all children up to the age of fourteen years

 Education, in general, is the concurrent responsibility of the Union and the States.

But due to some loop-holes in the educational administration and low-awareness among the people, it has not achieved the desired results. Unfortunately, due to irreverent attitude of the certain officials in the government and lack of awareness about the importance of education among the parents have resulted in tardy progress and lack of positive contribution. Crores of rupees are sanctioned by the government and many schemes were granted, if these were effectively utilized, we would have found our levels of education and literacy gone up.

Education is not just gaining knowledge; it should inculcate Ethical, Humane and Moral values which are the primary values of the society to be healthy and growing in stature. Today middle income groups of the society are deprived from higher level education and poor & backward classes are deprived from even the basic and quality education, which makes them incapable to compete with others and be a part in the country’s development and progress. The responsible persons of the society due to either misinformation or out of ignorance are not concerned about the severe problem faced in our Country in the field of education.

In order to explore solutions to above problems, SIO has decided to conduct Educational Awareness Campaign throughout the state.

Objectives of the campaign will be to bring Awareness about the Right to have Free Quality Education among all sections of the society under ‘Right to Education’, To promote debate in the society about the role of Government in providing Free Quality Education, To bring Awareness among those concerned on their responsibility to Educate the masses in the society.

SIO for the past 27 years is striving by hoisting annual educational awareness campaign in order to free the society from the bane of illiteracy which is the main impediment for country’s development.

During the campaign symposium, corner meeting, survey, rally, demonstration, parents- teachers meet, VIP’s meet, toppers and excellence award, street play, drama, wall writing, guidance & counseling and other educational development programs, Information on Scholarships & Educational Schemes etc will be conducted throughout the State.

National Secretariat of Students Islamic Organization of India (SIO) expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned Islamic scholar Dr Israr Ahmad. The demise of such an outstanding scholar is a great loss particularly for the Islamic activism of our times. Dr Israr Ahmed shall be long remembered for his life long effort to invite young generation towards Islam through his brilliant interpretations of the Holy Qur’an. His Dars-e-Qur’an guided many lives towards true spirit of Islam as in his young days he was guided and trained by great Islamic Scholar Maulana Syed Abul Ala Maududi. The memorandum states that the frequent power cut is disrupting the students study hours and this may have adverse effects on their performance and further on their future. Further, it was mentioned that the district of Uttara Kannada is comparatively facing more electricity problems than the other districts.
The memorandum urges the AC to make sufficient arrangements to avoid excess loadshedding hours during the examination, so that the students can put in extra efforts to achieve success.

Judicial Enquiry must be conducted on Batla House encounter: SIO

New Delhi (24/03/2010): A massive students march had been organised by Students Islami Organiation of India (SIO) demanding a judicial probe on the Batla house encounter on the wake of the postmortem report obtained from NHRC. The postmortem report of the slain youths Atif Ameen and Md. Sajid undoubtedly confirms that both were murdered not by Gun shots but by blunt force on the back of head.

Satya Ramakrishnan (Film Maker) stated that it is unfortunate that the protectors of law themselves are violating the law of the land. Human rights violations are being done not only in the form of encounters but also by arrest and torture of innocents. The police never spoke of the large number of people who have been set free after proving their innocence. The propaganda led by the US post 9/11 resembles the same as the Hitler’s against Jews. He urged to struggle till success.

Mujtaba Farooq (Secretary, Jamate Islami Hind), addressing the march said that the encounter is just an example of many such incidences and our demand is not just to bring the murders of Atif and Sajid but also Inspector, MC Sharma before justice. It is unfortunate that even the National Human Rights Commission does not have humanitarian considerations.

Tasleem Rahmani (President, Muslim Political Council) in his speech pointed out that the postmortem reports of the slain young men, which have been made public for the first time confirms that, the boys were hit by ‘blunt force impact by object or surface. He reiterated that this struggle for truth must not end in Batla House but must reach the Parliament street and if necessary the jails must be filled.

Suhail KK (All India President, SIO of India) said that the truth which has come out by the RTI application of Afroz Sahil is only one of hundreds of cases of merciless killings by authorities, which must come in the limelight. The postmortem report which says that the cause of Atif Amin’s death was shock and hemorrhage as a result of multiple injuries is the approval of the findings of various fact finding teams which had made its verdict to be a fake encounter. The issue is never related with any community but the whole citizens of India. He said that it is unfortunate that the Indian government is waging war against its own citizen in the name of terrorism and ‘operation green hunt’. The Government if they really want to curb the menace of extremism from its roots, it must wipe out injustice from society. Terrorism is a bi-product and deviated reaction of a victimized section of society against government’s public policy and developmental priorities. Suhail strongly demanded that judicial probe must be conducted into the Batla House incident and said that SIO with make joint efforts with all social groups to pressure the authorities towards this cause.

Speaking with the media, Shahnawaz Ali Raihan (National Secretary, SIO of India) “It took one and half years to get the Post Mortem report! Since the post-mortem report says both Atif and Sajid had injuries inflicted by a blunt object, other than the numerous gunshots wounds of their bodies, and they were shot from elevated position, so all these makes Batla House Encounter more controversial. To clear all these doubts there must be independent investigation. On the ground of Justice we demand from UPA Govt. to announce an inquiry into the incident by a sitting Judge of Supreme court immediately.”

Abdur Rafique (General Secretary, SIO of India), Shibli Arsalan (Editor, Rafeeqe Manzil), Aneesur Rahman (President, SIO Delhi) and Limseer (Vice-President, SIO Jamia Millia unit) led the students march.
